  The first shots

With the basic knowledge of styling and photography skills but not fully-fledged yet, we could not wait but went straight to a nice college campus nearby our home and started taking photos.

Once we found a nice spot, we discussed the composition and pose, assessed the lighting condition, and took as many pictures as possible. We reckoned the more pictures we took the higher the chance we would have good pictures. This strategy worked!

When we found a nice spot, Rain first got in position to help Peter find the focus. When the camera was set up, Peter joined Rain and just played together in front of the camera. Voila!

In less than 3 hours, we took over 160+ pictures using our very basic digital camera (an Olympus 4MP model).
Some statistics of our first batch of photos:

  •   40%+ were not bad
  •   10%+ were really good
  •   3% could be framed

The result was totally stunning and we were actually able to find some very presentable pictures in our very first trial.

Our DIY wedding photo idea really worked! We were so thrilled. We knew that we could get even nicer pictures if we just kept going.

We learned from our first batch of pictures that even a 4MP point-and-shoot digital camera will work if we get these three key elements right:

  •   Happy bride and groom
  •   Good composition
  •   Natural overcast lighting
